Acts focuses on helping the lower income families of Milwaukee become homeowners. The way that they do this is by showing these families that you do not need to buy the house that is completely remodeled and expensive, but instead, they show them that if they buy the foreclosed house down the street that is owned by the city and put in some sweat equity, they can achieve their dreams of becoming a home owner. As a result of their efforts, in 2016, ACTS helped 167 families accomplish homeownership and helped 75 foreclosures in Milwaukee to be reclaimed and rehabbed.
Acts is a “one-stop-shop” for these lower income families when buying a home. ACTS provides the following services: Non-For-Profit Real Estate Agents: The real estate agents that work with act help the clients find a house that they can call home and help with any problems that may occur during the home buying process. They can even help with acquiring the loan needed to purchase the house. Home Repair Grants, Loans, and Coaching: ACTS has an affiliated non-profit partner, ACTS Lending, Inc. This organization can provide mortgage loans for rehabilitation projects. The requirements to get a loan from them are less strict and more willing to find away to get you into a house that you can afford than the traditional bank. One-On-One, Customized Financial and Homebuyer Counseling: ACTS is also capable of HUD-approved homebuyer counseling. This means that the can sit down with an individual or couple interested in buying a foreclosed home and walk them through step by step with what is required to do. They can also teach them, for after the house is purchased, how to budget their money and be able to afford all extra bills that they may in counter that they may not have had when they were just renting their previous residence. Rehab expertise: ACTS also will help the family or individual with the rehabbing process. They help show people how sweat equity is very important and will teach them how to do the work. If the work is too much for the people to do themselves, they help them get in touch with professionals who can help them. To Learn More about ACTS, visit: https://actshousing.org/
